Year 5 2019 - 2020
Members of Staff:
Mrs Pickthall (Class Teacher)
Mrs Harper (Class Teacher), Mrs Murphy (1:1 LSA), Mrs Greenall (1:1 LSA)
Homework is given out at the end of the week (either Thursday or Friday). It is to be returned to class on Monday morning. Homework will generally consist of one piece of mathematics, an English based activity and spellings.
Additional Independent Learning
In addition, Year 5 children are asked to:
- Read for at least 20 minutes each day. Children can select their own reading matter but we would encourage them to explore quality texts that cover a variety of genres eg. fiction, non-fiction, poetry, classics, newspapers etc. Alternatively, children can use Reading Plus and earn certificates as they progress to a different level.
- Practise times tables every day. This is to ensure that they can instantly answer random times table questions (up to 12 x 12), together with the associated division facts. Please make use of Times Tables Rockstars.
- Don’t forget about RM Easimaths and Linguascope to help improve your Mathematics and Spanish at home.
Maple – PE is on Tuesday and Friday.
Cedar – PE is on Tuesday and Friday.
As the children will engage in both indoor and outdoor P.E. throughout the year, they will require suitable clothing for both. Please remember that it does get very cold and tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt are essential to keep your child warm. Please can all items of clothing and footwear be clearly named.
